Sir Winston picturehanged in chamberto inspire council

A resolution of sympathy was passed by mayor Alderman TJ Patterson who said that the death of Sir Winston was “an irreparable loss to the whole world”.

He said: “Alderman and Burgesses of the Borough of Carrickfergus desire to place on record our sense of great loss, which, we in common with the whole nation, have sustained by the death of Winston Churchill.

“Sir Winston was endowed with this quality that exalts human nature and gives more than the ascendant society. No statesman ever conducted his numerous responsibilities with greater success and felicity.

“His admirable tact was the means of restoring order and tranquility over the greater part of the world.”

In a further tribute, Councillor Jim Craig suggested that land between Taylor’s Avenue and North Road should be developed as a park and named after Sir Winston. He noted that there was a Churchill Drive in Carrick already.

Councillor Pat Armstrong proposed that a photograph of Sir Winston be hanged in the chamber to “give members inspiration”.
