Sonny the donkey not lacking

It might not have been the fastest way to do the shopping in 1985 but what Sonny the donkey lacked in speed he more than made up for in economy.

And the Percy family from Dollingstown reckoned that Sonny lorded it over the internal combustion engine in every respect.

Mrs Ann Percy liked to take to the roads in style with her two young daughters, Claire, eight months, and Angela, two.

“We travel into the town on the cart but it is important that someone walks alongside Sonny in case he gets frightened by the traffic,” said Ann.

“Travelling in a cart is more of a novelty than anything else but it is great fun, particularly in the summer weather”
