Teacher rescued pupil from Carrick Harbour

The nine-year-old boy fell into the sea whilst walking along the east pier.

He had been with classmates from Crumlin Road Primary School, Belfast, at the time.

The party had been visiting the town to take part in the choir section of Carrickfergus Musical Festival.

His class watched in horror as their teacher jumped from the 16 ft pier into the water to pull the child to safety.

While they waited for an ambulance to arrive at the scene, the teacher gave the boy resuscitation.

The youngster was taken to Carrick Hospital where he was treated for shock before being discharged.
