Teenage rock star in town 1959

A 14-year-old rock ‘n’ roll star was billed to take part in a three-night appearance at the Savoy Cinema, in Larne, in December 1959.

Tommy Kelly was to give two performances for local fans.

Tommy had been in showbusiness since the tender age of six.

He was best- known for his “beat” singing with accompanying guitar playing. During the concert in Larne, he was to play trumpet, one of five musical instruments on which he excelled.

Tommy had appeared in London on the same bill as singer Frankie Vaughan.

He was the only artist to have appeared three times in 13 months at the Royal Theatre in Dublin on the same bill as 19-year-old singer Creonia Rowe, from Kildare.
