Six children were convicted of injuring pigeons, according to a report in the East Antrim Times.

A 13-year-old boy was sent to a training school and his 11-year-old brother was sent to a remand home for a month for stoning the birds.

Another 11-year-old boy was sent to a remand home for a fortnight.

The trio was sentenced during a juvenile court hearing in Carrick.

The court heard that 14 pigeons had been stoned.

A charge of maliciously killing one of the birds was dismissed.

The owner of a loft told the court that he had found the body of a dead bird. A number of other birds were missing.

Three other boys, aged from 12 to 15 years, faced a total of 12 charges including breaking and entering, larceny and malicious damage.

District Inspector D McChesney said that there had been a “considerable number” of break-ins in Carrick.

Four of the boys pleaded guilty and were put on probation for three years.

One was fined 1o shillings on each charge. A sixth boy was fined £3.

All were ordered to make restitution.
