Traffic lights at Laharna

The Ministry of Development approved the introduction of two new sets of traffic lights in Larne town centre in June 1968.

These were to be located at Laharna crossroads and the junction of High Street and Pound Street.

Town surveyor Cecil Walker suggested that the ministry should “drop the idea of a no-right turn rule from Main Street into Circular Road”.

He said he believed that this was a well-used route.

Meanwhile, Larne Road Safety Committee expressed concern over a delay in the provision of traffic lights at Laharna corner.

The committee was informed that the project would proceed when the equipment became available. Members were advised that a long delivery period could be expected.
