Union Flag fears in Ballyclare
Fears that the Union Flag had been lowered at Newtownabbey’s Town Hall in Ballyclare were rife among residents in November 1985.
Councillor Sammy Gardiner said that he had received a number of calls from “distressed residents” who were worried that the removal of the flag was connected to the signing of the Anglo Irish Agreement.
He said: “I feel it is important to put everyone’s mind at rest concerning the lowering of the flag. The flag and pole are actually being replaced by a bigger version.
