Rev. Desmond Sheppard, a squadron leader, had serviced as chaplain to the forces in Aden.

He had been stationed with the RAF in Ballykelly.

While ministering in Whitehead, he met and married his wife, Marjorie Hutchinson.

Meanwhile, Carrick’s councillors prepared for a private film showing.

They watched a film of the “Mayor’s Sunday” shot by Carrickfergus Camera Club and the Royal visit by local woman Miss G Henley.

Footage from the Royal visit was said to be “very popular” with members “spotting themselves on screen”.
