Whitehead man aiming for Crufts success

A young man from Whitehead was aiming for success at Crufts in 1984.

Jim Dalton was one of the youngest dog exhibitors in Northern Ireland at the time. In October 1984 the 22-year-old was grooming six dogs in preparation for Crufts, three of which were his own.

The student from Islandmagee Road was in his second year at Belfast College of Art.

He was training to be a fashion designer and was sharing this passion for the arts in an original way by preparing the dogs for shows and competitions.

Grooming dogs for exhibition was a hobby, but one which he really enjoyed.

Jim had his first Irish Championship winner at the age of 15, and was aiming to be World Champion.
