Whitehead parking cost to rise

Parking charges were to be increased in Whitehead to pay for resurfacing of the seaside town’s promenade and extension to the car park.

Whitehead Urban Council decided in 1959 to raise fees in response to a proposal by Mr. HC Jessop.

Mr. Jessop said that an increase would bring Whitehead’s charges into line with other provincial towns in Northern Ireland.

The council also considered a cost of £100 for the town to host a luncheon and conference of the Association of Municipal Authorities.

Town clerk Mr. Regan told the council that it was responsible for all repairs to the local authority’s pre-fabricated bungalows and it was proposed that the town surveyor should source spare boilers as some were “not good”.
