They were presented with the Ulster trophy after they sealed their place in the IHL semi-finals with a 3-2 home victory over Cookstown on Saturday.

As if that wasn’t exciting enough, they will come up against Ulster rivals Banbridge in Saturday’s semi-final at Havelock (pass-back 5pm).

Garvey went through on top of Pool A after Three Rock Rovers beat Pembroke to edge their Leinster counterparts into second spot.

Three Rock will come up against Monkstown in the first semi-final. Their opponents cruised to the top of Pool B, winning all five matches. Their semi will pass back at 3pm.

Garvey edged Banbridge to the Ulster title on goal difference and will look to add to their rivals’ misery on Saturday evening and reach the final, which takes place at 4pm on Sunday.

Banbridge will have home advantage with the finals played at Havelock Park but Lutton wants to Garvey fans to turn up in number and help their team to repeat their 2012 IHL win.

He said: “Banbridge will be preparing like they would for any home game. Home advantage can help as we have found out the past few weeks but it’ll be a great tournament.

“As regards a spectacle of hockey, there’ll be nothing better in Ireland this year. Our fans have been great this season, following us home and away. It would be great to get support over there. People won’t have another opportunity to see so many international players on the pitch.

“It wouldn’t have mattered who we were drawn against for the semi-final. It’s the top two teams in Ulster and the top two in Leinster so it’s the top four in Ireland.”

The finals weekend will begin at 10.30am with the first Women’s semi-final. Pegasus, Loreto, Railway Union and UCD will fight it out for the women’s title.
