Now second in the table

LURGAN Celtic Youth travelled to Lisburn on Saturday and took the points with a thrilling 3-1 win over Lisburn Rangers Youth.

This leaves the Lurgan side second in the table, three points behind Armagh City Youth with a game in hand and the same goal difference.

After a fairly even first 30 minutes the young Celts took the lead when Greene headed in a corner to stun the home support.

Straight from the start of the second half the home side put tremendous pressure on the visitors and this eventually told when they scored a penalty.

Rangers went all out for the win but the Celts started to impose themselves on the home side. In the 65th minute Campbell hustled the defence into conceding a corner and from this McCrory headed in to put the visitors in front once more.

Despite their best efforts the home side couldn’t penetrate the visitors defence and the Celts went further ahead when the referee awarded a penalty in the 76th minute for a clumsy tackle and Greene despatched it calmly to seal the win in what was a very gritty performance.

This week Lurgan Celtic Youth are at home to Tandragee Youth at Kernan with a 9.30am kick off to facilitate the visitors who wish to follow their senior side in a cup match.
