Nursery takes part in Genevieve's Big Pyjama Party

DOWNSHIRE Nursery School in Banbridge has raised £680 by holding a 'Genevieve's Big Pyjama Party' in support of the Ulster Cancer Foundation.

During the fun-filled event, children from the nursery came dressed in their pyjamas and UCF’s Genevieve the Goat read from ‘Genevieve and the Farmyard Olympics’, a book aimed at children aged 3-4 years old.

The book has been sent to every nursery in Northern Ireland, with support from Lidl Northern Ireland, and highlights the benefits of a healthy and active lifestyle.

Clare Smith, Cancer Prevention Officer at UCF said, “Thanks to everyone at Downshire Nursery School who took part in Genevieve’s BIG Pyjama Party. We hope that the children enjoyed the reading of ‘Genevieve and the Farmyard Olympics, which introduces healthy lifestyle messages to children at an age when they are most receptive.

"It is essential that we teach young children about the importance of healthy eating and regular exercise in an engaging way – making the healthier option the fun option, so they can reduce their future risk of cancer.

“The money raised from by Downshire Nursery School will be invested in UCF’s Family Support Service. This vital service offers specialist emotional support to the entire family when a close family member has been diagnosed with cancer.

"The service is available to families throughout Northern Ireland and can involve home or hospital visits as well as telephone and email support. For further details on UCF and the Family Support Service click www.ulstercancer.org or call UCF’s Care Services team on 028 9066 3281.”
