NW200: Plater hurt in Thursday practice

Steve Plater has been hurt in a crash at this afternoon's NW200 practice.

The Honda rider was taken to hospital with a suspected broken wrist after crashing on the Coast Road.

Plater won the North West eight times, and it is thought that he may miss Saturday's race.

In a statement, a spokesman for the HM Plant Honda team said: "On the final lap of the Superbike Practice session Steve Plater had a crash at the final corner.

"Steve's injuries are not life-threatening and he was able to speak to the medical team and the HM Plant Honda Team Manager at the scene.

"He is understandably in pain and therefore has been administered with pain-killing treatment and is now in hospital where he can be examined further to establish the precise nature of any injuries he may have sustained.

"Steve would like to thank everyone for the numerous good wishes already received and the team will issue a further update in due course."
