O’Connell romps home to victory at Prehen

Noel O’Connell (15) the recently installed ‘Skipper’ of City of Derry’s Thursday Society was in tremendous form on Thursday and romped home in first place with a scintillating 38 points over the 15 holes played.

Noel won’t mind his handicap reduction considering he underwent a knee replacement in the summer.

He was two shots clear of Brian Stanford (17) who was the winner two weeks ago in the Jim Bresland Trophy.

Best of a quintet who scored 35 points was Bert Whoriskey (14) now well into his 85th year and playing the most remarkable golf.

A fabulous run at the 10th, 11th and 12th gave him three consecutive birdies and a great story for the grandchildren.

Society members are urged to put their names down in the Pro shop for the Christmas Party shotgun start golf at 11am on Thursday December 18.
