O'Connor hassuccess at Roe Park

THE Tara Trophy ladies competition at Roe Park was won after a break of tie finish by I O'Connor (16) after scoring 40 points. Second also on 40 points was R. Corbett (21), while A Kane with 39 points to claim third spot.

Peugeot LGU Coronation Foursomes went to Joan Dallas and Ann Dean after they scored (18) 38 points, second were Ita O'Connor and Karen Brown (22) after they finished with 35 points and in third place was Gearldine Kerlin and Carol McAllister (15) who scored 35 points.

The winners will represent Roe Park at Knock on Tuesday, July 22.

Saturday saw Roe Park's main fundraising event of the year take place and a strong field of 96 golfers took part on a cold and fresh morning.

The golf proved to provide a close finish with Joel Adlard taking the honours with 40 points from the Ulster Fourball stalwart Kevin Boyd who took second place one point adrift, Richard Henry was a further point back to take third place with 38 points.

Chris Thompson claimed the gross prize with three points. The front nine prize was claimed by Norman Martin with a fine 22 points. That tally also took the back nine prize, with war veteran George Walker showing there was life in the old dog yet.

Electric paddles must have been applied at the half way marker as he bounced back from a lacklustre 10 points on the front to more than double his tally on the back.

Prior to Saturday, 56 golfers took part in the regular Thursday stableford competition with low handicap golfer Ricky Cochrane making one of his regular visits to the winners circle with a stand out 44 points tally, losing himself a handicap stroke at the same time. The nearest man to him was Richard Barrell with 39 points rom James McGonagle on 38.

Irish Mixed Foursomes team of David Gault and Mary O'Kane, Gregory Thompson and Eta O'Connor, John Holmes and Geraldine Kerlin, John McKay and Anne Kearney and Ronan O'Brien and Marie McGuigan qualified in third place moving on to play Dunfanaghey Golf Club at Letterkenny in the best round.

This was the first time the qualifying event was held at Roe Park and the home team were delighted to qualify. This coming Saturday’s hosts the Walworth Cup.

This is an Open event held over the Thursday and Saturday, its held over to two days to give as much availability as possible for all to play. The entry fee is 15 which includes both green fee ands competition fee.
