Official opening of new nets at Lisburn

LISBURN Cricket Club took another step in the advancement of their facilities when they officially opened their new artificial practice net complex.

Lisburn have always been keen to provide the best of facilities for their members and this, after a year of hard work by club officials, came into operation at the beginning of the season.

The event was attended by all those involved in the finance and organisation of the complex. Sport Northern Ireland were represented by their Chief Executive, Eamonn McCartan, Chairman of Sport NI Dominic Walsh and his assistant Nick Harkness.

Other funding came from the Lords Taverners, Ulster Branch and they were represented by Chairman, Sam Goldblatt.

The Lisburn City Council were also in attendance; Mayor, Alan Ewart, his wife Denise and Robert McKnight from the Leisure Services. The Council have assisted Lisburn with the appointment of a Cricket Development Officer, Ryan Ervine.

Also at the opening was chief Lisburn sponsor, Dean Simpson from the Northern Bank.

The general structure of the club and its coaching system was outlined by President Michael Bowden while chairman Ian Ross thanked all who assisted with the funding of the new facility.

Dominic Walsh from Sport NI said that he was more than pleased to help the club in moving forward and emphasised that his organisation was there for that very purpose and he wished the club all success with their venture.

The Mayor, Alan Ewart also added his and his council's support for Lisburn C.C. and cut the tape opening the 29,000 complex.
