OG determined to keep 'Stute up

INSTITUTE go into this evening's (Friday KO 7.45pm) Premiership play-off with Donegal Celtic, knowing victory will ensure they keep their senior status.

The Waterside men battled hard to secure a scoreless draw at Suffolk Road on Tuesday night, but they were a penalty kick away from pick-up a massive first leg victory.

Centre-back David Ogilby had his stoppage time spot-kick saved by Declan Brown, but the Strathfoyle man is even more committed to helping 'Stute stay up.

"It was disappointing to miss the penalty but I can't dwell on it," he said.

"We can't feel sorry for ourselves, we have to keep driving forward.

"While I was disappointed at the time, it just makes me more determined to put things right in the second leg.

"It doesn't take much motivation to lift yourselves for such an important game but we have to show character to get the right result."

The defender also concedes that it's still all to play for and the game probably wouldn't be for the faint-hearted.

"The tie really is up in the air; it's not going to be a pretty game to watch by any means. Tuesday night's match wasn't a great game for spectators, it was a tight affair and there weren't many chances or shots on goal.

"We're expecting a similar game on Friday because neither side will want to make any mistakes or give much away as there's so much at stake for both clubs.

"The players' futures depend on one result and we've got to make sure we keep this club in the Premiership."

Defender Paddy McLaughlin and midfielder Ruairi McClean will miss this evening's second leg due to work commitments, however striker Joe McCready returns after suspension.
