Speaking about the event, Alderman Paul Porter, said: “The aim of the event was to promote the sport of Olympic Handball in the Lisburn area and we are pleased to announce that Lagan Valley LeisurePlex will be hosting a series of matches for the Belfast Olympic Handball Club who are relocating to Lisburn.

“We also had a school’s event where primary and secondary schools were invited to try out fun taster sessions, coached by Irish Olympic Handball Association coaches. It was a great opportunity to introduce the people of Lisburn and beyond to the game of handball.”

Handball is a team sport in which two teams of seven players each - six outfield players and a goalkeeper on each team - pass a ball to throw it into the goal of the other team. A standard match consists of two periods of 30 minutes.

Training sessions will be taking place every Wednesday at Lagan Valley LeisurePlex at 8.30pm - 9.30pm.
