Clubs from Coleraine, Belfast and Mid Ulster attended in what was a very entertaining event. With five teams playing and over 40 senior players the standard was excellent and very competitive.

Organiser Stephen McCartney, Coleraine Borough Council’s Community Sports Development Officer said: “Handball is one of the main legacy sports from London 2012 and we see potential to develop the sport not just here in Coleraine but also nationally.

“We’ve already trained 20 coaches at Level One standard and set up pilot programmes in Irish Society PS and Castleroe PS. As well we’ve had a Girls Handball Blitz with Coleraine College, North Coast Integrated and Loreto and the girls thoroughly enjoyed this new sport. Thanks goes to Coleraine Borough Council’s Good Relations programme and Peace III Building Sport project for supporting this initiative and showing a great example of integration between our local community in Coleraine and the foreign nationals in our area.”
