Olympics: Seaton and McGovern in sixth spot

Carrick sailing star Ryan Seaton, along with boat partner Matt McGovern, are in sixth spot overall in the Men’s 49er event going into day three of competition at the Olympic Games.

In their opening race at Weymouth on Monday (July 30) afternoon, the Irish pair crossed the line fourth out of 20 boats and came eighth in race two.

A diasppointing 15th place in race three on Tuesday (July 31) was follwed by a superb second-place finish in race four.

The pair have been keeping in touch with their followers on Twitter. After race three they tweeted: ‘Not such a good result there, but we know where we can be. 15th. Bring on the next race!!!’

And, after their fantastic finish in race four, they wrote: ‘2nd!!! It’s a breeze on out there!!!’

During Friday’s opening ceremony, Seaton’s beaming smile was broadcast to millions of television viewers as he was held aloft by team-mates from the Irish squad who were parading in front of a packed Olympic stadium.
