Omagh whitewash spells a fourth league defeat for Carrick Ladies

Neil McConnell’s girls suffered a 5-0 defeat at the hands of Omagh Ladies in a Senior Two match that was under threat from Saturday’s downpours.

Their league disappointment comes hot on the heels of their McConnell Shield exit at the hands of Lurgan II.

But it’s not all doom and gloom for the Amphitheatre side. They sit sixth in the table with three wins under their belts and nine points on the board.

However, they face the daunting prospect of going head-to-head with leaders Dromore this weekend. They boast a 100 per cent record with 26 goals scored and just six conceded. Carrick, who are away to the current pace-setters, have only won once on the road in the league this year and that was back in September against NI Civil Service.

Meanwhile, Greenisland bagged just their second point of the campaign with Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Derg Valley. They will be hoping to build on that result when they make the short journey to Roughfort to take on Owls Ladies on Saturday afternoon (1:30pm).

In Senior One, Larne Ladies recorded their first win of the season with a 2-0 home win over Grosvenor.

The breakthrough came 10 minutes before half-time. A first-time pass into the circle was only partially cleared by the ‘keeper and Angela McFall was on hand to fire in the rebound.

Their second arrived when Gillian Russell slammed the ball into the far corner after her initial effort had been blocked.

Elsewhere, it was a hockey washout for Ballyclare Ladies who were left idle. Waterlogged pitches at Ballyclare High School grounds resulted in the Senior One fixture with Raphoe being postponed.
