On your marks for the Spar 10k

PUPILS of Portrush Primary School were put through their paces before the end of term.

The school hosted a Spar Masterclass taken by Athletics NI in conjunction with the SPAR Coleraine 10K which takes place on Wednesday, July 14.

The children received top tips on how to become a budding athlete by Alistair Bratten of Springwell Running Club, with the assistance of one of NI’s top sprinters, Dean Adams.

Mr Guy, Principal of Portrush PS said: “I am delighted that the school has the opportunity to take part in the ambassador master class programme. The children learned a lot about athletics and had fun doing so. It was a fitting way to end the school term!”

Johnathan Anderson, Manager of Maxol/SPAR Portrush, added: “Portrush Primary School is our local school and is literally the ‘school around the corner’ from the store, so naturally we were eager to help out in any way we could, and were happy to provide healthy snacks for the kids to tuck into after their athletics Masterclass session with the members of the Springwell running club! SPAR is an active promoter of healthy lifestyles and encourages children to keep fit and healthy from a young age.”

The Spar Coleraine 10K is a new race on the athletics calendar hosted by the University of Ulster in conjunction with Springwell Running Club.

It will be run over a fast flat two lap course on the roads surrounding the University’s Coleraine Campus.

There will be prizes in all categories and Male and Female team prizes.

Entries for the event close next week so log on now to www.spar10kseries.com
