One man, one trike, 720 mile challenge

Meet Coleraine man Jason Huges, a self confessed endurance junkie.

Jason is in the final stages of training for a mammoth challenge that will take him the length of Ireland twice – and to the extremes of his physical

capabilities.

Jason suffered a spinal injury nine years ago which has left him with permanent nerve damage to his right leg, so he will be completing the challenge on a three-wheel trike.

In a bid to raise funds for the Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice, Jay will attempt to trike ride his way from the top of Ireland to the southern tip and back in less than five days - a solo ride from Malin to Mizen and back – that’s 720 miles!

The aim of the event, and other endurance events attempted by Jay’s group, TEAM 1 HEART 1 LIFE, is to push the limits and help worthy causes.

“The name of our team was generated several years ago to undertake a number of cycle challenges,” said Jay. “Two years ago I suffered a life changing injury in an attempt to ride Lands’ End to John O’Groats. This was to signal the end of my involvement with two wheeled cycling.”

Jason began his training in January of this year but will need to be covering between 150 and 170 miles per day during the challenge, which starts on

Saturday August 30. He hopes to complete the 720 miles journey on September 3. For more information search for team1heart1life on Facebook or visit www.justgiving.com
