Lurgan Bowling Club Senior team returned from league leaders Whitehead with a single point while this was a heavy defeat, the seniors must get over it quickly with games running out to try and haul themselves out of the relegation zone.

Whitehead looked comfortable throughout the game and Lurgan’s hope of causing an upset were dashed early, as they trailed 30-13 after five ends 68-21 after ten ends 91-38 at the three quarter distance, finally losing 110-58.

On Rink 1 Melvyn Hamilton, Ronnie McCullough, Bobby Ruddell and skip Mansell Montgomery, trailed 11-1 after five ends against Whitehead skip S McKinney, and 25-2 after ten ends. Whitehead continued their onslaught increasing their lead 34-2 after 15 and running out comfortable winners 40-9.

On Rink 2 Gareth Bunting, Davy Millar, Stephen Poots and skip Alan Roberts, provided the only point for the away team against Whitehead skip J Caldwell, as they built up a 10-2 lead after five ends picking up an impressive 7 shots in the second end. With their noses in front the Lurgan four managed to stay ahead for the duration of the game leading 14-9 after ten ends 21-13 after 15 and winning 26-18.

On Rink 3 Bobby Boness, Reece Millar, Pete McGrail and Skip Alan Briggs, were 9-1 down against Whitehead skip M McHugh after five ends and trailed 16-4 after ten. The Lurgan four never gave up and continued to fight, though the Whitehead rink continued to increase their lead it was 22-7 at three quarter distance, running out 27-12 victors.

On Rink 4 Ivor Mitchell, Richard McClune, Sam Neill and skip Harry Cosgrove struggled and won only one end in the opening half of the game against Whitehead skip B Browne as they trailed 18-1. The Lurgan four over the second half of the game managed to slightly reduce the deficit as Whitehead won convincingly 25-11.
