Opening day draw for Prior

ON Saturday Priorians Ladies First XI played their opening home game of the season against Belfast team Knock.

The squad were keen to put on a good performance for the home crowd and were determined to get a good result.

Priorians started off strong with steady passes from the defence working the ball up through midfield with great through balls to the attacking line who were unlucky not to collect them successfully.

Knock had strong midfield players who dominated the play in the opponents side and as a result of this they were awarded a few penalty corners but with great play from the Prior defence Knock were unable to score.

After half-time Priorians seemed to be quieter and the lack of communication between team members saw the Knock side taking more control of the game and being awarded two more penalty corners.

This lull did not last long and as the home side came fighting back working the ball out of defence quickly with strong runs from Sharon Karayiannis taking the Knock defence by surprise, Priorians kept the pressure on and with a quick counter attack the ball was played from Claire Lightowlers up to midfield to Kathyrn Rough who brought the ball into the attacking circle who slipped the ball back to the penalty spot for Emma Sproule to score the first goal of the game.

Priorians continued to play well but when Knock were awarded yet another penalty corner they managed to slip it past the defence and score.
