Opening day loss for Garvey as summer season begins

DIVIS 81 (5.5) LISNAGARVEY 70 (1.5)

LIisnagarvey started the season with a difficult trip to Divis in NIBA Division One and came home with 1.5 points from an 11 shots defeat.

At 11 ends, Neil Mulholland was 6-11 down, but he was 12-13 adrift at 17 ends before lifting two, three. However, Divis finished with two, three to win by a shot.

At the fifth, Noel Graham was 5-1 in front, but by 13 ends he was 7-11 down. Garvey lifted a three and by 19 ends was 17-11 ahead. Divis lifted a five but Garvey finished with a double to win by three shots.

A three, a five and a four helped Ivan Craig to a 15-2 lead at the eighth, but by 14 ends it was 15-14 and though Garvey lifted a three they were 19-21 down with an end left when they lifted an equalising double.

At the tenth, Keith Morrison was 9-16 down and 10-22 at 15 ends before losing by 13 shots.

Lisnagarvey B started the season in NIBA Division 4 with a 33 shots home win and all seven points against North Down.

Bobby Carroll won by the largest margin - 11 shots and there were comfortable wins for Alton Reid, Denis Rankin and Ken Armstrong.

Good start for Hilden B

Hilden B made a good start in Private Greens Junior Two when they beat Comber B by 12 shots and netted 5.5 points.

Robin Campbell led the way with a 16 shots win and Gary Finlay was not far behind with a ten shots success.

Hugh Murray gained a share of the spoils, but Max McClean went down by 14 shots.

Dromore fall at Carrick

Dromore travelled to Carrick in the opening match in NIBA Division Two, but only managed to take 1.5 points.

James McKenny was their only winner and Nick Haire, who has joined Dromore along with his father, Tom, shared the spoils.

Dromore B won on three rinks but lost by four shots at home to BETS in NIBA Division Five.

Alan Sudlow led 9-5 at the tenth and 13-12 at 15 ends before winning by three shots.

At the tenth Ronnie Malcolmson was 10-6 ahead but level 13-13 at 15 ends before coming back to win by three shots.

It was 8-8 at the tenth but Tommy Wilson was 13-15 down at 15 ends before losing by 12 shots.

Ahead 10-8 at the tenth Sammy Malcolmson slipped to 13-13 five ends later but came back to win by two shots.

Jeff Fawcus was the only Lagan Valley winner when they lost by ten shots away to Rathfriland B in the opening match.

Fawcus was 18-9 ahead at the ninth and 28-9 at 15 ends before winning by 15 shots.

Down 2-14 at the tenth, Jim Kinkead slipped to 5-18 and lost by 20 shots.

At the ninth, Brad Kirk was 8-6 down and 15-14 at 15 ends. Valley were 19-17 ahead at 19 ends but dropped two, one.

At the ninth, Wilfie Benson led 13-7 but was 15-17 down at 15 ends and despite lifting three, two at the final ends still lost by four shots.
