Charlie Smyth thanks the supporters back home after tying Saints field goal record
Charlie Smyth put in another superb performance on Sunday to continue the remarkable start he has made to his New Orleans Saints career.
The Mayobridge man scored 17 points for the Saints in their 29-6 win over the New York Jets.

He converted five of six field goal attempts (with a long of 50 yards) and two extra points, as his side secured their third straight win.
Furthermore, his five converted field goals in one game tied the record for the most in New Orleans Saints’ history.
His performance came just two days after the news that his agent Paul Sheehy broke on Friday, that Smyth put pen to paper and signed a three-year deal with the franchise.
Smyth impressed his coaches and the Saints ownership through his four NFL starts, and he has been trusted to their starting kicker of the future.
The former Down GAA goalkeeper spoke to the media following Sunday’s game about the incredible support he has got from home.
“The support from everybody back home in Ireland has been unreal,” he said.
“I’m super grateful for it. A lot of people are pushing the game of American football in Ireland now, and it’s nice to even just play a small part in the rise of the fan culture at home.
“I’m delighted to be a part of that and the support has been amazing. I’m constantly getting texts over the past few weeks.
“It has been unreal.”
