Aspinall hit two 140s on his way to holding his throw in the second leg.

'The Asp' broke the Gurney throw again with a 12 dart leg to take a 3-0 lead.

Gurney hit his first maximum in leg four and took out D16 to break Aspinall’s throw and open his account.

'Superchin' took the five leg as well and missed two darts in the next leg to tie the score, Aspinall punished with D8.

Gurney took leg seven and hit tops in the next leg to level the match at 4-4.

The Northern Irishman held his throw in leg nine to take the lead for the first time in the match.

A nervy Aspinall squared the game at 5-5 with a D7.

The 11th leg was to prove crucial, Gurney missed for darts at the outer ring to hold his throw and Aspinall to advantage by hitting D16 for a break of throw and go back in front.

The Asp chasing a playoff place held his throw in the 12th leg.

Against the throw in the next leg Aspinall produced a 177 ad a 180 but missed four match darts before eventually hitting tops to seal an 8-5 victory.
