Lurgan Blue brave the elements at Garvey to take full points

Veteran’s Team, Lurgan Blue took full points from their match with Lisnagarvey in heavy rain that didn’t stop them getting a 13-shot win to maintain their place at the top of Section 1A.

Victor Masters, Peter Ruffold, Michael Bunting and Alan Roberts had a fantastic 21-9 win over their Jim Short’s rink; restricting them to just 7 end wins.

John Murtagh, Robert Dorman, Stanley Watson and Dick McClune had a closer run against John McLoughlin’s home rink. Leading 14-10 after the 15th end a rink for Lurgan Blue four was in sight. However, they dropped double shots on the next two ends but secured a shot victory on the last end to win 15-14 and ensure a 10-point overall win on the day.

Lurgan Red travelled to Kilkeel to face Esplanade Utd in Section 4 in a match that place in torrential run throughout. Unfortunately they did not succeed in taking any points from the game.

Cup matches started last Friday with Lurgan Blue progressing to the 2nd Round of the Thornton Cup with a fine win over local rivals, Portadown. Lurgan Red lost out to Belfast team, Belmont 2 in the 1st Round of the Stevenson Cup.
