Packed programme brings Raceway season to finale on Friday

The Ballymena Raceway season draws to a conclusion on Friday evening (October 9) and a bumper schedule of events are programmed to end the 2015 campaign in some style.

The packed line-up features the Golden Helmet Trophy for the Group Two Lightning Rods, the Challenge Cup for Stock Rods, Round 6 of the PC Paints and Components World Series NI for the National Hot Rods, the Champion of Champions for the Euro Stocks and the Top Teen Trophy for the Junior Rods.

A close contest is in prospect for the coveted Golden Helmet Trophy which is currently held by Daniel Rodgers.

Recently crowned Irish Champion Andy McLeister is the man of the moment in the GP2 class after winning the National Series at Raceway last weekend and the Ballymoney based racer will be looking to finish the season with another success but local favourites Freddie Fleck, Jason Clyde and Kenny Carson will all harbour ambitions of lifting the trophy.

The Stock Rods contest their Challenge Cup where Irish Champion Wilfie McNiece will start as the hot favourite. Local lad Aaron Moody has made a great impact in his short time in the formula and will be another to watch out for, along with Matthew McKinstry, Stephen Doherty, Lester McCloy and Kells teenager Adam Sloan.

The young chargers in the Junior Rod section compete for the Top Teen Trophy with Irish Champion Antony Kincaid looking to extend his winning streak at Raceway.

The Speed Kings in the National Hot Rod section will provide fireworks as the drivers battle it out for those all important World Qualifying Points. Mark Heatrick currently tops the points table, with Gary Wilson and Derek Martin in hot pursuit.

It promises to be a thrilling finale to the Raceway season with the first race commencing in the Ballymena Showground’s at 7:15pm.
