Pair on course for final

The final of the NIBA Open Singles and Fours could be a Lisnagarvey v Dromore affair, but both have to win their semi-finals.

On Monday, July 29 Dromore’s Gavin Glinghan takes on Martin McHugh, Whitehead, but he has a big test, while it is the turn of Philip Cromie, Lisnagarvey on Wednesday, July 31, who meets Andrew Corrigan, Portadown.

On Monday, July 29 the Dromore rink, George Dawson, Graham McDowell, Allan Johnston and Davy McCandless face Clifford Craig’s Balmoral four.

Two nights later, John McCloughlin, Gareth McCloughlin, Ivan Craig and Neil Mulholland take on Maurice Reid’s Balmoral four.

Turning to the Private Greens Championships and Hilden’s Stephen Kirkwood has reached the semi-final of the under-25 singles after beating D. Mills, Pickie.

A Hilden rink, skipped by Raymond Gourley is also in the Over-55 semi-final.

The other members of the rink are Melvyn McQuillan, Howard McMullan and Colin Montgomery.

Three teams not in action

Three local teams were not in action on Saturday because of the Junior Inter-Association competition.

Lisnagarvey had George Carson on the NIBA team and Scott Jess was a reserve, while Dromore’s Andrew Johnston also played for the NIBA.

Hilden’s Robert Kirk played for the Private Greens.

Two points for Garvey B

Lisnagarvey B had to settle for two points at home to NIBA Division Four promotion chasing team, Clarendon, when they lost by 18 shots.

Down 3-17 at the tenth and 3-27 at 16 ends Denis Rankin won the remaining ends with singles but lost by 18 shots.

Despite lifting three at the tenth Jim Chapman was 6-12 down but pulled back to 15-16 at 18 ends, but Garvey lost by four shots.

A three helped Bobby Carroll to a 10-5 lead at the tenth and Garvey added four at 12 ends to go 18-15 up at 18 ends before winning by two shots.

Ahead 14-3 at the tenth Alton Reid had to hold off a strong challenge before winning by two shots.
