The pair had big wins to reach the second round of the competition, which had the likes of Raymond van Barneveld, Adrian Lewis, Mervyn King, Michael van Gerwen and Andy Hamilton all competiting and was eventually won by Kim Huybrechts, who defeated fellow Northern Irish man Brendan Dolan.

Jackson defeated former world champion John Part 6-3 in the first round, before narrowly losing 6-5 to Mark Cox in the second round.

Despite trailing 5-0, Jackson battled back to level the contest, but lost the final set to the Englishmen.

As for Gurney, he qualified for the big event joining the top 32 ranked players on the Pro Tour. These events are a great way for the Waterside man to earn more rankings money to move up the world rankings.

He started strongly beating former world champ Steve Beaton 6-4 in the evening session on stage 2, earning the right to take on ex-Premier League and UK Open champion James Wade on the main stage.

Unfortunately Wade had a comfortable 6-1 success, nevertheless the experience both Gurney and Jackson gained will continue to benefit them.

Gurney carried his recent good form on, as he secured a few impressive wins at the PDC German Darts Championship, in Hildesheim, in September.

The plumber did well to fight back and defeat Colin Lloyd 6-5 in the first round, before seeing off Ronnie Baxter 6-3 and then he had a narrow 6-5 success over Simon Whitlock, but Peter Wright defeated him 6-2 at the quarter-final stage.
