Panthers get off to a winning start as Ulster League matches begin

With the Ulster League matches getting underway this week the Alpha Panthers had the opportunity to get a head start in Division 4 against St John’s.

Captain Matthew Irwin partnered David Wilson to a close three set win over Dawson and Scott of St John’s winning 21-18 in the deciding set and the second mens doubles saw another victory for the Panthers partnership of Lonsdale and Moss who came through 21-14 in the third set.

The ladies Doubles matches were shared with Rachael Woods and Beth Stephenson recording a 21-14 21-19 win over Callaghan and McGladdery but St John’s pulled one match back when Rebecca Woods and Armstrong lost in three sets after taking the first 21-9.

The Mixed Doubles were shared when St John’s took the top two matches including Irwin and Rachael Woods losing 21-12 21-15 to Dawson and Callaghan and it was left to Lonsdale and Rebecca Woods and Moss and Armstrong to hang on to secure a 5-3 victory for the Alpha Panthers.
