Parkhall pupils rewarded for their sporting excellence

A number of pupils from Parkhall College have recently been rewarded for their exploits in their respective sports.

Following the successful sponsorship of many of Parkhall’s sports teams, both the college and Islandbawn Stores were delighted to unveil new pupil reward hoodies.

They were presented at a special sports assembly by Islandbawn Stores owner Paul Kirkpatrick to pupils who gained the honours as a result of their display of sporting excellence and commitment shown to the college over the past number of years.

This carries on from the recent substantial sponsorship agreement, which has now been running for many years, and will be gratefully received by the college’s many sports stars.

They were nominated by the college’s PE department and the grateful recipients were: Senior pupils Rhys Smyth and Zoe Kilpatrick (best overall), Marc Chan and Jade Taffe (best effort and contribution) and junior pupils Reece Sloan and Emily Wilson (best overall), Daniel McCullough and Katie Hunter (best effort and contribution).

The winners in closer detail are:

Rhys Smyth (Year 12): Rhys was captain of the school football team between years 8-12, leading them to the greatest period of success in the school’s history, as they won three doubles in a row. He was also a member of the County Antrim Sports Hall athletics team

Reece Sloan (Year 10): Another who captained Parkhall at football, he also was selected for the East Antrim District Team in 2015 and the Antrim District in 2016. He was the school’s Sports Day champion in 2015 and 2016 and also played for the cricket team in years 8-10.

Emily Wilson (Year 10): Emily is perhaps best known for her footballing exploits, where she has represented Northern Ireland at both under-15 and under-16 levels but she is a multi-talented sportsperson, having also represented the school in hockey and athletics.

Zoe Kilpatrick (Year 10): Like Emily, Zoe has also been selected to play football for Northern Ireland but she is equally competent in hockey and athletics.

Jade Taffe: Jade has shown her leadership qualities by captaining school teams in both hockey and football, while she also represents the school in netball and athletics.

Katie Hunter (Year 10) is another who has represented the school in hockey, athletics and football, while Daniel McCullough (Year 10) has excelled in football, athletics and cricket.
