Paul makes most of fine conditions

THE good weather made for ideal playing conditions at Edenmore Golf Club for the Stableford competition.

Paul Bradley made the most of the good weather and conditions, managing to score a fantastic 44 points playing off his 12 handicap.

With seven pars on the front nine the teed up on the tenth just two over gross and with 22 points already on his card. Two birdies and four pars on the back nine helped secure another 22 to secure a four point lead in the competition and a two shot cut in his handicap.

The gross prize was won by Philip Sheldon, shooting a gross 72 off his one handicap. Phil had four birdies during his round and sadly a few bogeys let him down otherwise he would have romped home with another of his sub par rounds.

In the sections, section one (0-13) was won by Stuart Baird with 40 points and winning on countback on last six holes despite his 23 points on the back nine. Kenny Gracey chased Stuart to the line, also on 40 points and also with 23 pts on the back nine, but losing out to Stuart’s better last six holes. In third spot was Clyde Anderson scoring a tidy 38 points to claim his prize.

Section two (14-18) was not just as competitive as section one but Dominic Downey did the business scoring 38 points to win by a point from Gerwyn Young on 37. Dominic had two birdies on the seventh and thirteenth holes in what was a very steady round. Walter Ferris is never too far away and on this occasion took third spot with his 35 points

In section three (19-22) Keith W Robinson had a three shot lead and won with 40 points over John Graham on 37 points. Keith, playing off 20, had a steady round managing to secure four pars and a nice birdie on the fourteenth to win. John Hart took third spot with 36 points

Section four (23-28) had another clear winner with Philip Mulholland scoring 39 points playing off his 23 handicap. Philip had three pars during his round and lost a shot off his handicap.

Matt Trimble and Phillip Greer both had 36 points but Matt took second spot on countback.

In the Monday seniors Barry Thompson was outright winner on 43 points just one point ahead of Aubrey Davidson on his 42 points

The Wednesday Stableford was won by Peter Nelson scoring an excellent 44 points, Steven Archer was three points behind on a very impressive 41 points. In third spot Ryan Agnew had 39 points, just beating Paul Bradley, also 39 points, on countback despite both players having 19 points on their back nines. Damien Mullan took fifth also with 39 points but with a very strong front nine of 22 points. Deaglan O’Hagan took the gross prize.

Edenmore’s Rossmore cup team were in action against Cloverhill at home and managed a 2/2 result in what was a very competitive match.

The Ulster Fourball, under team captain Jim Fleming, has reached the quarter-finals after beating Blacklion and now play Lisburn at Lisburn this Sunday. Club members are encouraged to support the team if they can.

In the ladies section Lady Captain Heather Patterson and Elaine Thompson qualified for the Nellie Garrett and go on to play at Knock in September.

In the Tuesday competition Steph Watson was outright winner with 34 points beating second placed Edith Watson who scored 32 points. Steph managed to score two twos, on the 11th and 17th, during her round to empty the twos kitty. Her two on the seventeenth enters her automatically into the exclusive Honky Dorys club. Saturday’s lady winner was Louise Gaw.
