Paul’s world has a silver lining

Paul Reid was celebrating his best ever achievement at the weekend when he lost in the final of the Short Mat Players’ Tour World Masters and picked up the prestigious silver medal.

The Ballinderry bowler won his way through to the final in a field of 252 starters before losing to Gerry McCabe in the final.

Paul got off to a bad start, going 5-0 down but won the next three ends. It was only at the ninth end that McCabe took an 8-5 lead with a double before finishing a 10-5 winner.

Earlier, Reid had beaten Lee Jacob 13-4 in the quarter final and followed up with an 11-9 win over Eddie Crawford in the semi-finals.

It was a great performance to finish runner-up in such a large and class field. Well done Paul.
