Well known on the mountain running scene, Gamble battled his way through a gruelling anti-clockwise loop of Slieve Donard, Commedagh, Bernagh, Meelmore, Meelbeg, Dam, Binnian and Lamigan. The race covers a distance of 19 miles, with a total ascent of 8,700ft - it’s not for the faint-hearted!

Gamble ran a strong race, setting a new personal best for the course, crossing the finish line in a very impressive time of 4:50:29. It was a fantastic result reflecting the hard training he has put in over the months since the Mourne Way Ultra event.

Elsewhere, Seapark’s father-and-son duo Gavin and Bobbie Irvine competed in yet another parkrun 5k event at the weekend.

Now regulars at the parkrun events, the pair chose the Falls Park on this occasion - one of the more difficult courses.

They ran together, crossing the line in 24:38 and 24:39 – Gavin beating Bobbie across the line by a mere second! Both Gavin and Bobbie are training for the Achill Island Marathon event, taking place on August 24 with Gavin running the half-marathon and Bobbie the full marathon distance.

Seapark AC meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7pm at Carrickfergus Cricket Club, Middle Road. Runners of all abilities are invited to come along and will be given a warm welcome.
