PEACOCK ‘FLATTERED’ BY UNITED APPROACH

As reported in last week’s paper, Peacock was United’s first choice for the managerial post in the wake of Joe McCall’s shock departure.

He met with officials from the club to discuss a potential move but with the transfer deadline looming within hours of that meeting, he felt the timing wasn’t right to make the move.

Despite admitting he has ambitions to manage at a higher level, Peacock said his focus was now solely on Intermediate outfit Rasharkin and building on their impressive start to the current campaign.

“I had an interview with them for over an hour and they told me I was their number one choice, which was flattering and intriguing at the same time,” he said.

“I asked a few questions, they told me a few answers. I went back home for three or four days and did a bit of research and I just decided that the timing of the whole thing was nowhere near right for me.

“I’m committed to the job I’m doing at the minute but I am ambitious and I want to manage at a higher level.

“With the transfer window closing on Wednesday and the embargo on loans the players were 100% Joe McCall’s.

“That’s no disrespect to the existing players there in no way, shape or form.

“Last year at Rasharkin we delivered success, we delivered a trophy. We lost eight players in the summer and I spent five weeks rebuilding my own team.

“To get that proposition 48 hours before the window shut just wasn’t going to work.”
