Penultimate round of tough Ulster Cup series

Karting

THIS Saturday 11 September sees Ulster Cup kart racing action at Nutts Corner Circuit when the province’s drivers tackle the penultimate round of the tough Ulster Cup series.

With no class yet having clear run away leaders the Ulster Karting Club promoted meeting is sure to be close as drivers really start to consolidate their positions or push for those extra but all important points when it comes to dropped score time at the end of October.

The recent action though was at Ireland’ s largest karting event at the circuit when drivers from across the country, and further afield, took on the Precision Kart Team supported Irish Kart Grand Prix.

Star guest driver was World Intercontinental Rally Champion Kris Meeke who contended the 250cc National class for a ‘relaxation’ away from his busy world championship regime.

In the very popular Honda Cadets class, Ballymoney brothers Philip and Chris Doherty will no doubt be after top points scoring races on Saturday.

The pair were in strong form at the GP meeting and in the end took sixth and seventh respectively which no doubt will give them confidence for top fives on Saturday.

Coleraine’s Martin Culbertson will also be in hopeful form in the Pro-kart class. At the GP meeting Martin took a strong top ten which he no doubt will hope to improve on this Saturday.

In the 125 Rotax Max class, Dungiven’s Martin McLaughlin will also be all out to secure strong Ulster Cup points in his bid for a podium overall.

The GP meeting was much tougher than usual but undoubtedly Martin will shrug that off to concentrate on the Ulster Cup.

Racing this Saturday gets underway at 11am with a packed schedule comprising three heats and finals.
