Personal best for East Coast AC runner Murray

East Coast Athletic Club’s Murray Deller took on the annual Ards Half-Marathon, which was the sixth race of the ongoing Pure Running-ChampionChip Half Marathon Series on Friday (June 26). Despite the humid conditions, he ran a personal best 1:28:24.

On the same day, Mark Jordan and Phil Smyth were in action at the finale of the 2015 Hill & Dale Race Series - the Drinahilly race - hosted by Newcastle AC.

Mark ran an impressive 27:29 to take 51st and fourth in his age category. Having competed in every race of the series, Phil ended on a high note when he descended towards Donard Park, crossing the line in 31:31 (114th overall).

Ealsewhere, Adele Neill tackled the Hell of the West Triathlon - one of the longest triathlons in the world - in Limerick on Saturday.

She secured an impressive eighth place in the ladies’ Super Series, as well as 11th lady overall. Adele’s swim time of 30:09 set her off for a good start, completing the 44k cycle in 1:19:37 and finishing with the 10k run in a time of 45:18. It gave her an overall time of 2:37:02.

A relative newcomer to the world of triathlon, Roy McMullan proved he has certainly got a talent in the multi-discipline event when he travelled to Ballywalter for the Peninsula Triathlon Club hosted Sea Sprint Triathlon. The East Coast AC man performed well, claiming a 67th place in a total time of 1:25:16.

The event consisted of a 750m open water swim, 20km bike and 5km run and Roy excelled in each of the disciplines. He completed the swim in 16:41 before cycling 20k in 40:30 and finally running the 5k run in 24:09.

At the finale of the East Antrim Harriers Forest Trail Series, Mark Jordan was the first club member to cross the line, and did so in fine fashion, taking a 23rd in 29:39.

The ever-improving Brian Maltman was next in 31:46 (46th place), before James Robinson and John Steele followed just seconds later in 31:54 (48th and fifth in age category) and 32:18 (54th) respectively.

Sandy Plumb completed the 4.5 miles in 34:34 to take 76th place. Connie Hodge was the first East Coast lady home in a time of 35:36 (17th lady).

Lionel Date finished well after a battle with a swarm of flies three miles into the course. He clocked 37:37 to take 98th spot. Lesley Robinson was31st in the ladies’ race in 38:42 (fifth in age category).
