Peter helps lift hisside off bottom spot

Oxford Sunnyside travelled to play Craigavon City in an Intermediate B league game and came away 3-1 winners.

From the kick off Oxford took the fight to their opponents and dominated early possession but it was Craigavon who took the lead after 20 minutes with their first threat on the Oxford goal.

A slick move down the right hand side and neat finish left the half time score 1-0.

At the start of the second half Oxford won a free-kick on the edge of the box and Peter Mills powered the kick past the keeper to equalize.

On the hour mark Gerard Magee broke down the left side of the field pulled the ball back to Michael Doran on the edge of the box who struck the ball home at the second attempt.

With 15 minutes left Oxford got their third when a nice turn from Michael Doran on the edge of the box fed the ball to Peter Mills who finished clinically.

Craigavon City then had a blistering shot from outside the box which struck the crossbar, Darren McCrory went on a run for Oxford beat three men and pulled his shot just past the post.

In the last few minutes Craigavon City broke through one on one with goalkeeper Kieran Murray but Kieran stood his ground and saved the shot.

A pulsating second half and a richly deserved win for Oxford Sunnyside FC.

Best for Oxford on the day was Michael Doran whose overall performance was well rewarded with his first senior goal for the club.

This was a big win for Oxford as the three points lifts them off the bottom of the table ahead of Seagoe and Broomhedge.

On Saturday Oxford Sunnyside face a daunting challenge as they are away from home to take on league leaders Tullyvallen.
