Peter named in Ireland squad for Rotterdam

Banbridge Hockey Club player Peter Brown has been selected for Ireland as part of an 18 man squad for the upcoming Rabobank World League Semi-Finals in Rotterdam from June 13-23.

Peter is one of the youngest players to be selected for Ireland at this level and made a positive impression on the Irish selectors when he made his debut for the senior Irish team at the World League 2 games in India back in March.

Ireland Coach Andrew Meredith, selected the 18 from an original training panel of 30 after two recent intensive training camps and a two-match test series against Germany.

Ireland are placed in Pool B of the tournament and face top class opposition in the form of the Netherlands, New Zealand & India. Pool A will feature Australia, Spain, Belgium and a yet to be determined qualifier from the final World League 3 tournament in Russia taking place at the moment.

Quarter Finals, Semi Finals and Final line ups will be determined following Pool completion with games taking place on 19th, 21st, and 23rd of June respectively. The team will need to finish in at least the top six of the tournament to have a chance of qualifying for the 2014 World Cup.

The fixtures are as follows: 13th June India v Ireland; 15th June New Zealand v Ireland; 17th June Netherlands v Ireland.

Bann also have a number of players selected for Ireland at underage level. Tim Watt is in the Irish U16 squad in preparation for a Triangular Tournament with Wales & Scotland in early July. Jonny McKee and Ben Cosgrove are in the Ireland U18 squad which will travel to the U18 European Nations tournament this July in Poland.
