Philomena takes Seniors Day glory

TWENTY-ONE ladies took to the Strand Course at Portstewart to take part in the Nora Sloane Seniors Day.

The trophy was won by Philomena Kelly (35) with 34 points over Susan Kelly (33) with 34 points. Lady Captain Christine Hutchinson (19) won the front nine with 20 points and Irene Murray (23) won the back nine with 18 points.

Meanwhile on the Riverside eight ladies played a nine hole competition which was won by Evelyn Craig (36) with 19 points over Liz Weston (29) with 19 points.

Meanwhile, Eileen’s Trophy competition was played on August 11 with 58 ladies playing over 18 holes on the Strand course and 12 ladies playing over nine holes on the Riverside.

The Strand competition was won by Rebecca Lemon (22) with 36 points. Best Gross was won by Jane Duke (12) with 20 gross points and runner up was Pat Cole (20) with 34 points. Brenda Strain and Heather Rainey were the only twos.

Trudie McIvor (36) won the Riverside Competition with 19 points, Lilian McAuley (36) was the runner-up with 17 points over Kate Boyle (30) with 17 points.

The Charity Day Open was played on August 18 with 63 lady members and 47 visitors competing on the Strand and 13 ladies playing on the Riverside.

This competition was sponsored by ths Bank of Ireland and JKC Motors. The winner was Lady Captain Christine Hutchinson (19) with 36 points. Best Gross was Lucia Mullen (11) from Ballyliffen with 23 points. Three ladies had 34 points and were placed as - runner-up Evelyn McFadden (26) better back six over third place Maggie Penny (15), better back nine over fourth place Inge Rowan (23).

The front nine was won by Kay Simpson (35) with 18 points and the back nine by Clare Harley (21) with 18 points.

Jane Duke and Ina Bratton achieved twos. Nancy Tease (32) won the Riverside 18 hole Competition with 37 points and Breda McKenna (31) was runner up with 36 points.

Prizes were presented by Audrey Johns from the Bank of Ireland. Portstewart Ladies would like to thank their sponsors for their continued generosity.
