LOCAL schools involved in the IFA / DENI FUNdamental movement skills programme competed in a series of Mini World Cup Tournaments as part of the UEFA Grassroots day last Wednesday.

The tournaments organised by IFA Primary School Coach Mark Dinsmore were held at Cross and Passion College Ballycastle and involved eight teams from seven local primary schools in the Moyle area.

The 5-a-side tournaments gave the children the opportunity to put the skills they have learned during the programme into practice.

Primary School Coach Mark Dinsmore, commented: "The standard was exceptionally high, with some fantastic football played by all teams.

"It would have been the first time many of the children played sport in a competitive environment and they really did their schools proud showing great sportsmanship".

The tournaments were part of the UEFA Grassroots day aimed at promoting football particularly for children between the ages of 5-11. Although participation and fun were paramount for the day, the winners of Group A were Bushvalley Stranocum, with St. Patrick's and St. Brigid's Ballycastle topping Group B.

Mark would like to thank Mrs. Ward and Cross and Passion College staff for the use of their excellent facilities and generous support during the event and congratulate them on the success the sports specialist school has enjoyed recently.
