Pierce Purcell Shield (Ulster) qualifying event

CUSHENDALL Golf Club hosted the local qualifying for this very popular tournament recently with fourteen clubs competing for four spaces.

As hosts, Cushendall were automatic favourites with all the pressure that brings but they proved their mettle by not only qualifying with eight strokes to spare, but topping the chart for the day on 320. This was three points clear of Galgorm Castle GC and Royal Portrush GC and six clear of neighbours Ballycastle GC on 326.

These teams now progress to the matchplay section where Cushendall will play Ballycastle at Galgorm Castle Golf Club and Royal Portrush will meet Galgorm Castle at Cushendall Golf Club. These matches must be completed on or before Monday, May 31.

Other club scores were: Moyola Park 328, Kilrea 333, Gracehill 333, Manor 334, Portstewart 334, Roe Park 337, Bushfoot 339, Castlerock 341, Rathmore 346 and Ballymena 349.
