Pippa seals easyouting for Seconds

Lurgan Ladies Seconds 4

Portadown Seconds 0

LURGAN Seconds took on Portadown Seconds at Lurgan Junior High on Saturday and came away with a 4-0 victory.

This was scant recompense for losing last week’s top of the table clash to Lisnagarvey Seconds. However, the girls took heart that they are capable of dominating a team and must bide their time and maintain their composure.

Lurgan tucked their first away within the first two minutes thanks to Julie Morrow. Unfortunately Lurgan took their foot off the pedal and although they scored a second from captain Niki Quinn they could not convert into points the pitch they dominated territorially.

Lyndsey Andrews marshalled her defence of Clara Lennon, Helen Morrison and Vicky Donaldson and they played a much more mature style spreading the ball about the width of the pitch.

An attitude readjustment at half time produced the desired effect. The tenacity returned to this pacey squad and the visitors found it hard to get out of their own half. Led by experienced Nicky Thompson Lurgan began to hassle every encounter. They spread the ball expertly and then attacked with pace. Ellen Mullen had a particularly impressive afternoon, worthy of ‘man of the match’.

Julie Morrow scored her second, after a few frenzied attempts she arrived at pace and buried the shot on the run in.

It was a similar scenario when Pippa Best slammed in number four on the rush on the goal.

Next week sees the Seconds take on Knock in the qualifying plate at LJHS at 1pm.
