Pipped at the post in Skegness tourney

SUNNYSIDE under 11s' long awaited trip to Butlins in Skegness proved to be well worth the effort.

They finished runners-up in the tournament, only losing out on goal difference to Daker Devils from Yorkshire.

After ten months of preparation the Lurgan party took a short flight to Leeds and a taxi ride to Skegness.

They wasted no time in getting to know their surroundings, with the go-karts proving to be an instant hit for kids and adults alike.

The football started the following day with Sunnyside in the same group as teams from Yorkshire, Manchester and Middlesboro.

They came through the challenge in style winning four games and playing some super football.

After another action packed evening it was back to the football and a game against Horsey who had been well beaten in previous games.

The Lurgan side only managed a 1-0 win after hitting the post twice and the crossbar once.

This was to be crucial later in the tournament when goal difference decided the winners.

Overall Sunnyside won six out of their seven games and drew the other one with Dakar Devils who were declared winners because of a one goal better record.

Premiership star Dean Ashton presented them with their trophies.

The end of season trip proved to be a real hit with the youngsters and the organisers would like to thank all those who made it possible.

These included the parents and those who helped with fundraising efforts as well as the ‘Legends’ for their night the Stables and Roy Kennedy Fuels.
