Pivotal time in Garvey’s season

LISNAGARVEY face a crossroads in their season over the next two Premier League fixtures. If they still have real hopes of taking the title then they must produce two great results in the next week ends.

On Saturday they welcome league leaders, Banbridge to Comber Road and at the moment they trail their old rivals by seven points but with a game in hand. Three points on Saturday would close the gap and if they could defeat second placed Instonians the following week end at Shaws Bridge then their prospects would be greatly enhanced.

First they have to gain a result against Bann and considering their recent form this will be no easy task. They made some progress last week end with the 11-0 win over a weak Antrim team but in doing so, both Timmy Cockram [4] and Greg Thompson [5] got back on the scoring trail. It is hoped that the team will rise to the occasion and show more purpose and determination on the day.

In the absence of Banbridge’s ace penalty corner expert Ross McCandless who is now playing junior hockey, Garvey’s own Timmy Cockram could well hold the penalty corner key to the match.

He will, however need support from other key players in the team, midfielders Mark Raphael, Daniel Buser and Peter MacDonnell plus tight defending from captain Jonny Bell and Brian Waring if they are to gain what could be a season changing result. The game starts at 2-30 p.m. at Comber Road.
