Places filling past for summer programme

COOKSTOWN District Council Sports Development Unit has put together an exciting sports and physical activity programme for young people of all abilities and interests.

Following advertising of the CDC Summer Sports Programme courses on offer are proving to be in popular with high levels of interest. Multi-Sports camps will take place across the district and will include Grassroots Soccer, GAA, Girls only Soccer, Hockey, Tennis & Netball.

The Active Communities Programme is a Sport Northern Ireland Lottery Funded initiative that aims to increase participation in sport and physical recreation in communities throughout Northern Ireland.

New to MUSA in this Olympic year is the Athletics camp which will run 6-9 of August and is open to 8-14 year olds. Spaces are also available on the MUSA multi sports camp running 23-26 of July.

New for 2012 for is the 2 day wildcats summer camp for 5-8 years olds which will take place August 28 -29. Active 8 Wildcats is a Sport Northern Ireland campaign which encourages children to get active and stay healthy, aims to raise awareness about the importance of doing a minimum of one hour of physical activity each day. The initiative is supported by all five Education and Library Boards and the Public Health Agency, and is one of only three sports initiatives in Northern Ireland to have been awarded the London 2012 Inspire Mark.

Places are still available on the outdoor pursuits canoeing and sailing programme for 13-18 year olds that runs in the evenings on four different weeks in July and August. This programme is funded by the local policing and community safety partnership.

Finishing the summer on a high, the Mid Ulster Sports Arena will host their 2nd annual Family Fun Day on Saturday 25 August from 4.00-7.00pm. This year will be extra special with the visit of the Paralympics Flame on the day. This will be a fun and exciting day for all the family with a wide range of activities including Small sided Club Games in Gaelic Games and Soccer, Inclusive Games for people with a Disability, Disability exhibition games in football, Gaelic and Rugby with special guests, with other attractions including face painting, balloon making, bouncy castle, bungee run, children’s amusements & rides and various stalls. All this and much more for FREE! A great day out for all the family.

All activities will be led by fully qualified staff that will ensure the young people encounter a fun and enjoyable experience in a safe and structured environment.

Numbers are limited for each programme and age restrictions apply. Places will be allocated on a first come first serve basis and therefore participants are advised to book now by contacting the Mid Ulster Sports Arena on 028 8676 7135 for an application form.
